Plot 144 is the home of G&A Services and Farming. The family living here are seeking to live a sustainable life from the land. The owners are full time workers, and seek to set up a homestead that will one day allow them to quit their day jobs and permanently live from the site.
The main aim for this site is to be a Desert Permaculture Demonstration Site where PDCs will be held as well as running internships for Dryland farming students.
Grant van der Merwe is a Chemical Engineer by trade and is the main designer for this property. He has received his PDC from Geoff Lawton in 2013 and has completed his Permaculture Facilitators Course under Belinda Ross (Permaculture Institute of Southern Africa) in 2015.
Grant’s wife, Annegret, is busy completing her PDC (2024) and is a Montessori teacher, with the dream of combining the Permaculture and Montessori curriculums to start her own Permaculture Montessori school on the property.
Together with their two children the family is working towards greening the Namib Desert
