My wife and I are dedicated permaculture advocates and the owners of Namabwe Permaculture Farm, located in southern Karas Bethanie District of Namibia near Helmeringhausen. With a strong focus on sustainable agricultural practices, we are busy transforming the 1000-hectare farm into a model of climate-resilient farming. The farm integrates agroecology, innovative water management systems, renewable energy solutions, and diverse farming strategies such as mushroom and cricket cultivation in a controlled root cellar. By managing temperature, humidity, and lighting, we mitigate the effects of extreme weather. We also plan to utilize aquaponics to further address the challenges posed by recurring droughts in the region.
We are also deeply committed to education and capacity building, hosting students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and other institutions for practical training in sustainable agriculture. Through these partnerships, the farm serves as a research hub, empowering the next generation of farmers and environmental stewards. Additionally, the farm provides training for local farmers, demonstrating how climate-smart practices can rehabilitate overgrazed lands and improve food security.
With a passion for creating scalable and replicable farming solutions, we are a key advocate for empowering women and youth in agriculture. By promoting accessible, sustainable farming techniques, we hope to help reduce the barriers to entry in farming, particularly for those who lack access to large tracts of land. We hope our work will inspire others in the Namibian agricultural community to adopt more sustainable, climate-resilient practices.
